Characteristics

Tree to 30 m high; polygamous-monoecious; plant ±glabrous. Twigs flattened, with prominently raised transverse ridges 3–5 mm apart. Leaves petiollate; petiole 10–20 mm long, 2.5–3.5 mm wide, channelled; lamina 2–18 (–25) cm long, 2.5–9 cm wide, coriaceous, elliptic, base cuneate, apex shortly mucronate, rounded or retuse, margins recurved, secondary veins 4–6 pairs per 5 mm, joining submarginal vein 1.5–3 mm from margin, prominently or slightly raised above and below, reticulate venation present. Inflorescences of 1–3 flowers, axes up to 1.5 mm long. Pedicel 6–8 mm long. Flowers 12–17 mm in diam.; sepals, 7–10 mm long, 5–7.5 mm wide; petals elliptic or orbicular, 9–15 mm long, 8–9 mm wide; stamens 5.7–6.3 mm long, anthers oblong or linear, apex obtuse, 2 mm long; ovary 4–4.5 mm long; styles 2.7–3.3 mm long. Fruit globose or subglobose to ovoid, wrinkled texture, (25–) 70–200 mm long, (22–) 50–70 mm wide. Fruiting calyx lobes 10–11 mm long falling off with maturity. Seeds ±globular, broadly ellipsoid.
