Characteristics

Terrestrial herbs with stout, fleshy roots. Stems very short, with rosette of radical leaves. Leaves long-petiolate, membranous. Scape slender, erect, with a few membranous sheaths, many-flowered. Flowers less than 1 cm. long. Lateral sepals united to one another and to the petals and lip for at least half their length. Lip united to sepals, with slender claw, base of free part provided with 2 reflexed marginal appendages. Column elongate, adnate to perianth-tube, free at apex, with 2 serrate terminal appendages or wings; rostellum elongate; anther subsessile between the column wings, broad, concave; pollinia loosely granular.
