Characteristics

Annual herb, stems c. 3-50 tufted from the base, 25-100 mm tall, erect, simple, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, leafy only near base. Leaves opposite, bases connate, crowded at base of stem, blade c. 5-20 x 4-10 mm, elliptic, ovate or subrotund tapering to a broad flat petiolar part c. 7-23 mm long (about equalling to twice as long as blade), apex obtuse to rounded, margins entire to serrate, both surfaces densely glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long. Flowers many in terminal subcapitate racemes scarcely elongating (to 20 mm) in fruit. Bracts (lowermost) 2-3.5 x 0.8-1 mm, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate. Pedicels (lowermost) 1-3 mm long, shorter upwards. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.3-0.4 mm long, lobes 3-4 x 0.4-0.8 mm, lanceolate-oblong, glandular-puberulous all over, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, occasional ± sessile glistening glands also present. Corolla tube 4.5-6.2 x 0.8-1.2 mm in throat, cylindric, inflated in upper half, limb bilabiate, 5-7.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.7-2.6 x 1.4-2.1 mm, anticous lobe 2-3.6 x 1-2.2 mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, obtuse, entire, yellow, outside with glistening glands on backs of lobes, tube minutely glandular-puberulous, inside 5 longitudinal bands of clavate hairs in throat. Stamens often 2 only by reduction of the anticous pair, these sometimes represented by 1 or 2 staminodes, or sometimes with fertile thecae 0.1 mm long, posticous anthers 0.7-1 mm long, included, posticous filaments bearded. Stigma 1.2-2 mm long, deeply included. Style 0.3-1.1 mm long, much shorter than stigma. Ovary 0.8-1.2 x 0.6-0.8 mm. Capsule c. 3.2-4 x 2.5-3 mm. Seeds c. 0.5-0.8 x 0.3-0.4 mm, pallid.
