Characteristics

Perennial herb somewhat stoloniferous at base and there to c. 10 mm diam., stems 1 or few from crown, erect to c. 1 m, simple below the inflorescence, puberulous, hairs balloon-tipped, to 0.3 mm long, distantly leafy. Leaves opposite, bases connate, lowermost c. 80-200 x 13-25 mm, diminishing upwards and passing into bracts, narrowly elliptic, tapering at both ends, margins entire to serrulate or serrate, both surfaces glandular-puberulous, a few balloon-tipped hairs as well on midrib below. Flowers many in narrow thyrses composed of dichasial cymules further arranged in a large spreading panicle. Bracts subtending individual cymules c. 2.5-10 x 0.5-1 mm, linear. Pedicels very short or flowers sessile, peduncles of individual cymules c. 1-10 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.3-0.75 mm long, anticous lobes 1-1.8 x 0.4-0.6 mm, anticous lip split 1-1.5 mm, posticous lobes 0.8-2 x 0.3-0.7 mm, posticous lip split 1-1.6 mm, all lobes linear-oblong, tips ± thickened or subspathulate, puberulous on backs and margins, balloon-tipped hairs to 0.2-0.3 mm long, smaller gland-tipped ones as well. Corolla tube 4.5-6.5 x 1-1.6 mm in throat, cylindric, dilated near apex, limb bilabiate, 5.5-7 mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes 2-2.8 x 1-1.8 mm, anticous lobe 2-3 x 0.8-1.4 mm, all oblong-elliptic, mauve or whitish, tube purplish or yellowish respectively at base, puberulous outside, hairs to 0.1 mm, balloon-tipped, inside a short posticous band of clavate hairs, dark in lower part, 4 lesser bands round rest of throat. Stamens 4, anticous anthers 0.4-0.6 mm long, very shortly exserted, posticous anthers 0.6-1 mm long, included, posticous filaments bearded, hairs usually dark. Stigma 2.75-4.5 mm long, shortly exserted or just included. Style 0.4-0.8 mm long. Ovary 1-1.2 x 0.4-0.6 mm. Capsules (immature) c. 4.5 x 2.5 mm. Seeds unknown.
