Leaves opposite, bases connate, c. 35-70 x 2-8 mm, narrowly elliptic, apex ± acute, base narrowed to a petiolar part, margins usually sharply serrate, sometimes subentire, both surfaces puberulous with balloon-tipped hairs up to 0.2 mm long. Flowers many in long narrow lax terminal thyrses, lowermost flowers sometimes solitary, mostly flowers up to 9 in dichasial cymules, occasionally monochasial when one branch fails to develop. Bracts (subtending lowermost flower or cymule) c. 2.5 x 0.75 mm, oblong. Peduncle or pedicel (lowermost) c. 2-6 mm long, flowers otherwise sessile or almost so. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.4-0.8 mm long, lobes 1.5-2 x 0.4-0.8 mm, subspathulate, tips somewhat thickened, tiny balloon-tipped hairs on margins only. Corolla tube 7.5-10.25 x 1-1.4 mm in throat, cylindric, inflated near apex, limb bilabiate, c. 9-11 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 3.75-5 x 1.4-2.1 mm, anticous lobe 3.4-4.2 x 1-2 mm, all narrowly elliptic, margins revolute, orange to orange-brown, tube sometimes purplish, puberulous outside on backs of lobes and inflated part of tube, hairs often running down tube, particularly on posticous side or thinly puberulous all over, either glabrous inside or with a few posticous clavate hairs in throat. Stamens 4, anticous anthers 0.5-0.8 mm long, just included, posticous anthers 0.8-1.2 mm long, included, posticous filaments weakly bearded. Stigma 0.8-1.7 mm long, shorter than style. Style 2-2.7 mm long. Ovary 1-1.6 x 0.5-0.8 mm, conical. Capsules c. 5-6.5 x 2.5 mm. Seeds c. 0.8 x 0.3 mm, violet-blue.
