Manulea latiloba Hilliard

Annual herb, stems several tufted from base, 10-120 mm long, simple, erect, minutely glandular-puberulous, leafless. Leaves opposite and decussate, bases connate, crowded at base and appearing rosulate, blade up to 6-24 x 3-15 mm, oblanceolate to obovate, tapering into a flat petiolar part 4-18 mm long (very roughly half length of blade), margins entire to shallowly toothed, both surfaces minutely glandular-puberulous. Flowers many in simple terminal racemes, crowded at first, distant in fruit. Bracts (lowermost) 1.5-3 x 1 mm, shorter upwards, lanceolate, minutely glandular-puberulous. Pedicels (lowermost) 1.5-6.5 mm long, shorter upwards. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.2-0.4 mm long, anticous lobes 1.5-2 x 0.6-1 mm, posticous ones slightly smaller, oblong-lanceolate, minutely glandular-puberulous on margins only, sparse ± sessile balloon-tipped hairs on tube and backs of lobes. Corolla tube 2-2.5 x 1.2-2 mm in throat, ± funnel-shaped, limb 4-5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1-2 x 1-1.1 mm, anticous lobe 1.4-2.5 x 0.8-1.5 mm, all ovate, obtuse to subacute, white, yellow patch down back of tube, tube minutely glandular-puberulous to almost glabrous outside, always with ± sessile balloon-tipped hairs on backs of lobes, inside a longitudinal posticous band of clavate hairs running out onto lower half of posticous lip and often right round mouth. Stamens 4, anticous anthers 0.3-0.5 mm long, shortly exserted, posticous anthers 0.3-0.5 mm long, visible in mouth, all filaments glabrous. Stigma 1.1-2 mm long, well exserted. Style 0.4-0.8 mm. Ovary 1-1.2 x 0.6-1 mm, subrotund. Capsules 2.5-3 x 1.8-2.25 mm. Seeds c. 0.5 x 0.4 mm, violet-blue, grey-blue, or creamy-coloured.
