Characteristics

Herb, possibly persisting for more than one season, taproot woody, c. 2.5 mm diam. at crown, stems several from the crown, c. 190 mm tall in flower (will elongate in fruit), simple, glandular-puberulous, hairs sparse on inflorescence axis, occasional hairs up to 0.2 mm long, nude. Leaves all radical, crowded in a rosette, opposite, bases connate, blade up to 25 x 8.5 mm, elliptic tapering to a petiolar part 14 mm long, apex subacute, margins irregularly serrate, both surfaces glandular-puberulous. Flowers many in long simple terminal racemes, distant. Bracts (lowermost) c. 3-3.5 x 0.8 mm, linear-lanceolate. Pedicels (lowermost) 3-4 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.3 mm long, lobes subequal, c. 2.5 x 0.6 mm, lanceolate, glandular-puberulous all over, some hairs, mainly on margins, to 0.2 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube c. 7.5 x 0.8 mm in mouth, cylindric, inflated in upper part, limb bilabiate, c. 9 mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes c. 5 x 1.2 mm, anticous lobe c. 5 x 1 mm, all oblong-lanceolate, margins revolute, tips acute to eye, colour unknown, tube almost glabrous outside (a few minute glandular hairs), glistening glands on backs of lobes, glabrous inside. Stamens 4, anticous anthers 0.6 mm long, tips just visible in mouth, posticous anthers 1.2 mm long, included, posticous filaments either glabrous or with 1 or 2 hairs. Stigma c. 5 mm long, reaching mouth. Style c. 1.2 mm long. Ovary 1.2 x 0.8 mm. Capsules unknown. (Thellung's original description referred to capsules of a different species).
