Characteristics

Shrubby, stems up to 300-750 mm long (only upper parts seen), 4 mm in diam., woody, decumbent, ascending or erect (?), branches virgate, pubescent with spreading acute hairs up to 0.6-1.2 mm long, long gland-tipped hairs also present, leafy throughout, dwarf axillary shoots often prominent. Leaves opposite, bases connate becoming alternate upwards and passing imperceptibly into bracts, blade of primary leaves c. 12-23 x 7-20 mm, ovate or occasionally oblong, apex acute to obtuse, base abruptly contracted to a petiolar part 3-15 mm long, roughly 1/2-1/3 as long as, or occasionally almost equalling, blade, margins coarsely, sharply, and sometimes doubly, serrate, both surfaces villous, hairs up to c. 0.8 mm long, mainly gland-tipped. Flowers many in a long narrow lax terminal thyrse composed of few-flowered (up to c. 11) dichasial cymules. Bracts (lowermost) either leaflike and then c. 10-20 x 5-11 mm including a short petiole, or narrowly elliptic and c. 6 x 0.6 mm. Peduncles (lowermost) c. 2-8 mm long, pedicels c. 1 mm. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.2-0.4 mm long, lobes c. 2.5-3 x 0.5-0.6 mm, lanceolate, villous all over, hairs 0.5-0.6 mm long, acute, smaller glandular hairs also present. Corolla tube c. 6-7.2 x 1-1.2 mm in throat, cylindric, inflated near apex, limb bilabiate, c. 7-9.5 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes c. 3.5-4.8 x 1.5 mm, anticous lobe c. 3.2-3.5 x 1.1-1.5 mm, all lobes oblong, tips often retuse, margins revolute, 'yellow-brown', pubescent all over outside, hairs acute, up to 0.4 mm long, inside a few clavate hairs in back of throat, sometimes also on anticous side. Stamens 4, anticous anthers c. 0.5 mm long, just included, posticous anthers 0.7-1 mm long, more deeply included, posticous filaments thinly bearded. Stigma 0.9-1.5 mm long, shorter than or about equalling style, included. Style 1.3-2 mm long. Ovary 1-1.5 x 0.6-0.8 mm. Capsules not seen.
