Characteristics

A rigid twiggy shrublet up to c. 450 mm tall, main stems c. 4.5 mm diam. at base, branches spreading at base of plant, upper branchlets ascending at angle of c. 45°, densely scabrid-pubescent with broad-based hairs up to c. 0.4 mm long, minutely glandular as well, leafy. Leaves opposite at base, soon subopposite to alternate, c. 5-25 x 1-6 mm, passing into smaller bracts, oblanceolate to oblong, apex ± acute, often recurved, base somewhat narrowed and decurrent on stem in two very narrow ridges, margins with 1-7 pairs of small teeth mainly in upper half, smallest ones and bracts entire, both surfaces densely pubescent, hairs as on branches. Flowers few in a short (up to c. 20 mm) raceme terminating each twig. Bracts c. 4 x 0.6-1 mm. Pedicels c. 1-2.5 mm. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.2 mm long, anticous lobes c. 3 x 0.7 mm, posticous lobes slightly smaller, minutely glandular-puberulous all over together with coarser broad-based ± scabrid hairs, eglandular hairs to c. 0.4 mm on margins. Corolla tube c. 7 x 1.3 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded in upper half, limb almost regular, c. 6 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes c. 2.2 x 2.2 mm, anticous lobe c. 2 x 2.2 mm, all lobes subrotund, 'creamy yellow to yellowy, almost brownish', outside of lobes and tube puberulous, hairs to 0.3 mm, ± retrorse, upper surface of lobes with tiny clavate hairs forming a star-shaped pattern, inside of tube glabrous in upper half, minutely glandular-puberulous below insertion of posticous filaments. Stamens 4, anticous anthers c. 0.7 mm long, included, posticous anthers c. 1.2 mm long, deeply included, posticous filaments bearded with clavate hairs. Stigma c. 0.6 mm long, shortly bifid, deeply included. Style c. 0.6 mm long. Ovary c. 1.2 x 0.8 mm. Capsules c. 4 x 2.5 mm, minutely glandular-puberulous. Seeds c. 0.8 x 0.5 mm, pallid. At the end of July, only old capsules were present.
