Characteristics

Leaves: upper cauline alternate, 14–22 x 1.5–2.5 mm., sessile, linear to linear-lanceolate, subentire to sparsely denticulate; lower cauline opposite or alternate, 24–75 mm. long, 3.5–13 mm. wide, linear-lanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate, apex obtuse, narrowing into slender petiole-like base, sparsely to remotely dentate; basal (22)70–115 mm. long (4)10–12 mm. wide, clustered to rosette-like, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse at apex, narrowed into slender petiole, sparsely dentate.

Corolla dull yellow to orange, or purple [?], tube (5.5)6–7(8) mm. long, slender, densely, minutely papillose, gibbous towards mouth; lobes 1.2–2 x 0.6–0.8(1) mm., spreading, margins recurved when dry, subequal, broadly oblong to obovate.
Calyx (1.2)1.5–2(3) mm. long, lobed to more than half-way; lobes 0.2–0.3 mm. wide, linear to linear-spathulate, with spathulate appearance being due to cucculate apices.
Annual or biennial herb up to 1 m. or more tall, simple or branched, minutely more or less densely white papillose-pubescent; branches tetragonous.
Inflorescence a few-flowered lax raceme to a many-flowered thyrse.
Capsule 1.8–2 x 1-1.25 mm., oblong, laterally somewhat compressed.
Anterior stamens very shortly exserted.
Bracts 1–1.8 mm. long, linear, obtuse.
Pedicel up to 1 mm. long, stout.
