Characteristics

Leaf-lamina up to 15 x 8 cm., mostly ovate or broadly or narrowly elliptic-oblong, apex usually rounded, sometimes subacute, base rounded to subcordate, rarely acute, lower surface densely arachnoid-tomentose at first, glabrescent, though some hairs always persisting, venation closely reticulate, prominent above, less so beneath; petiole 0·3–0·6 cm. long; stipules up to 0·7 x 0·2 cm., caducous.

Inflorescence a terminal corymbose panicle up to 15 x 20 cm.; inflorescence-axes and outside of flowers usually coarsely fulvous-tomentose, rarely completely glabrous; bracts c. 0·5 cm. long, boat-shaped, keeled; pedicel gradually expanded into receptacle-tube, the two together 1·3–2·2 cm. long.
Drupe up to 3 x 2 cm., ellipsoid, reddish-purple, tomentose when young, pubescent when mature.
Receptacle-tube obconoidal, slightly curved, 0·5–0·6 cm. long.
Stamens c. 60; filaments 1·5–2·2 cm. long, white.
Ovary densely tomentose; style c. 2·0 cm. long.
