Characteristics

A monoecious shrub up to 4 m. tall.. Young twigs sparingly puberulous.. Petioles 0.3–1(–3) cm. long, 1–2 mm. thick, evenly pubescent; leaf-blade oblanceolate, 8–36 cm. long, 2–12 cm. wide, acutely acuminate, long-attenuate to the base, with 2 small adaxial glands at the base, remotely and rather shallowly denticulate, very thinly chartaceous, lateral nerves 8–12 pairs, midrib and lateral nerves prominent beneath, glabrous, dark green above, paler beneath.. Stipules subulate, 1.5–2 mm. long, puberulous, soon deciduous.. Racemes up to 30 cm. long, with each glomerule usually consisting of 1–2 ♀ flowers and 2 ♂ flowers; axis sparingly puberulous; bracts triangular-lanceolate, 1.5 mm. long, sparingly puberulous.. Male flowers: pedicels 2–4 mm. long, minutely puberulous; sepals 3, elliptic-ovate, 2 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, mucronulate, glabrous, reflexed, pale green; disc-glands minute, angular; stamens 30–40, 4 mm. long, anther-thecae 0.5 mm. long, each borne on a stalk or half-connective 0.5 mm. long, white.. Female flowers: pedicels 4–7 mm. long, extending to 1.5 cm. in fruit, minutely evenly puberulous; sepals 3, triangular-ovate, 1.5 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, subacute, sparingly minutely puberulous without at the base, otherwise glabrous, not reflexed; disc 3-lobed, the lobes triangular, 0.5 mm. long, thin; ovary subglobose, 1 mm. long, 1 mm. diameter, minutely puberulous; styles 1 mm. long..
