Characteristics

Habit: rampant, slender, silky hairy twiner;new stems warty and silky hairy. Leaves  often clustered with leaves in differing lengths, eventually alternate; ovate to cordate, 20–45 mm long, 8–18 mm wide; base truncate to cordate; margins sinuate, crenulate; petiole to 3 mm; abaxial slightly hairier than adaxial surface. Inflorescences corymbose, 3–5 almost regular flowers with parts in fives; rachis 30–40 mm; bracts to 4 mm long sepaline, hairy.Sepals blue, linear, 4–5 mm long, silky hairy; petals 4–7 mm, spreading from base, opening palest blue, with darkening blue spots/blotches and yellow striations on all five petals. Stamens free, regularly placed;and approximately the same height, filaments bend or kink out of the way of the developing pistil; filaments almost winged towards the base, articulated; anthers sagittate, initially white then blue; pollen blue. Pistil with wide receptacle and basal nectary; ovary stipitate, rather compressed, glabrous; style eventually a similar length to ovary, persisting in fruit, minimal stigmatic development. Fruit loculicidally dehiscent capsules, brittle, stipitate,  6–7 mm long, 5 mm diam., ovate, blue, eventually brown; seeds few, globose, muricate. Flowering generally October to December.
