Marsilea macrocarpa C.Presl

Species

Pteridophytes > Salviniales > Marsileaceae > Marsilea

Characteristics

Stipes variable, usually glabrous, somewhat striate. Pinnae green with long brown suberous interstitial streaks on under surface of floating pinnae, flanks usually concave, outer margin round, usually entire or sinuate. Pedicels free, inserted at very base of stipe, usually erect or ascending, c. 7-12 mm long. Sporocarps very variable in size, narrowly rectangular to slightly biscoctiform in dorsiventral cross-section, not bordered, usually with shallow furrow along dorsal, frontal and sometimes part of ventral side; lateral ribs more or less distinct, often disappearing at maturity; raphe distinct, covering A-A of sporocarp base; inferior tooth absent (or present as very shallow hump); superior tooth present, rather short; sori usually 8-12.
More
Aquatic perennial. Fronds with slender, usually glabrous stipes, 150-300 mm long; pinnae broadly obdeltoid, 15-23 x 15-23 mm, distal margins entire or shallowly crenate to irregularly incised, glabrous or pilose at first, becoming glabrous with age. Sporocarps broadly elliptic to elliptic-oblong or obtusely rectangular to subcircular in lateral view, rectangular in dorsiventral cross-section, tomentose to appressed-pilose, rarely becoming glabrous, inferior tooth usually absent, superior tooth short, obtuse, insignificant, rarely acute, lateral ribs distinct.
Fronds with slender, usually glabrous stipes up to 300 mm long in floating leaves. Pinnae narrowly to broadly obdeltate, up to 15 x 12 mm, flanks concave, with brown interstitial streaks beneath. Sporocarp: pedicels free, up to 12 mm long; narrowly rectangular in dorsiventral cross section, with a shallow furrow along dorsal and frontal side, lateral ribs distinct, raphe distinct, inferior tooth absent, or a small hump, superior tooth present, short.
Aquatic perennial. Fronds with stipes usually glabrous, pinnae with brown interstitial streaks beneath, flanks concave, pedicels free. Sporocarps narrowly rectangular in dorsiventral cross section, lateral ribs distinct, superior tooth present, short.
Stipes variable, usually glabrous. Raphe covering half to one-third of sporocarp. Pinnae green with long, brown, suberous, interstitial streaks on undersurface of floating pinnae.
A fern. It forms loose clumps. The rhizome can be 0.1-1.8 mm thick. The fronds are 10-25 cm long. The leaflets are grey-green
