Liana. Leaves opposite, papyraceous, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate at apex, rounded at the base, 4-13 cm long, 2-6 cm wide, the margin entire, narrowly revolute, glabrous on the upper surface except for the midrib, the secondary veins slightly conspicuous, the reticulate veins prominulous; lower surface with scattered appressed trichomes and more numerous patulous trichomes, the pri-mary lateral veins of 4-5 pairs, ascending, the reticulate veins more or less prom-inent; glands at the base of the blade lacking but sometimes with small scattered glands. Inflorescence large, a terminal thyrsoid panicle; branches ferruginous or red, tomentose, bracts narrowly lanceolate, pubescent, 1-2 mm long; peduncles 1-3 mm long, hirsute; pedicels 5-8 mm long, slender, flexuous or erect, puber-ulent, 20-35 in each dense pseudoraceme. Flowers 12 mm diameter; sepals ovate, broadly obtuse, purplish, villous with the margin glabrescent; petals violet, mem-branaceous, glabrous, the blade rounded-obovate, entire, 5 mm long, 4 mm wide, the claw 1 mm long; filaments glabrous, 2 of them thicker; styles thick, 2 curved at the base, glabrous, spatulate at the apex with the internal angle protrudent, obtuse and stigmatic, the external angle somewhat acute, the ovary hirsute. Sa-mara shaped like a butterfly, the lateral wings flabellate, subhyaline, 8-12 mm long, 15-22 mm wide, membranaceous, venous-reticulate, softly pubescent, the outer margin crenate, the dorsal crest 1-2 mm high.
