Characteristics

Perennial herb. Stems 1-many, procumbent to erect, up to 0.8 m high. Leaves with margins of leaflets serrate in upper part, 10-25 x 3-15 mm; stipules entire or basally toothed. Flowers: florets 6-12 mm long; corolla purple, mauve or pale lilac; Oct.-Apr. Burrs smooth, 5-9 mm in diameter, concealing calyx, coiled along full length; seeds 2.2-2.5 mm long.
