Medicago scutellata (L.) Mill.

A sprawling annual herb. The leaves have 3 leaflets that are oval or wedge shaped. The flowers are 6-7 mm long. They are in clusters of 3. The pods are 9-18 mm long with 4-8 spirals. They have glandular hairs.

It is found primarily in meadows and wood margins, though it also grows in fallow fields as a weed of cultivated crops, on plains, roadsides, dry hillsides and in coastal regions.

Some forms in Japan have been developed for their edible pods.

Can be grown by seedlings. Seeds needs soaking.
