Characteristics

Tree to 10 m high. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3 or rarely subopposite or alternate, simple; petiole 1–1.7 cm long; lamina elliptic or narrowly so to narrowly obovate, 7–28 cm long, 2–8.5 cm wide; secondary veins 14–18 on each side of midrib, divergent at angle of 70–80°. Inflorescences 1–several-flowered, to 4 cm long; pedicels 7–25 mm long. Sepals 3.5–5 mm long, abaxially glabrous, accrescent to c. 8 mm long in fruit. Petals distinct, 7–7.5 mm long, white or cream, glabrous, persistent and accrescent to c. 10 mm long in fruit. Staminal filaments distinct, woolly at margin in c. proximal 1/2, eglandular. Stigma capitellate. Follicles 5.5–6 mm long.
