Characteristics

Tree to 7 m high. Leaves opposite, trifoliolate and simple. Trifoliolate leaves: petiole 1.5–6 cm long; laminae elliptic or narrowly so to obovate, 3.5–8 cm long, 1.3–3 cm wide; secondary veins 8–12 on each side of midrib, divergent at angle of 70–80°. Simple leaves: petiole  0.2–1.5 cm long; lamina ovate to elliptic or obovate, 3.8–7 cm long, 1.8–3 cm wide; secondary veins as in trifoliolate leaves. Inflorescences 1–several-flowered, to 1.2 cm long; pedicels 0.5–1.5 mm long. Sepals 1.5–2 mm long, abaxially glabrous. Petals distinct, 3–4 mm long, cream to pink or reddish, abaxially densely appressed-pubescent, adaxially glabrous, subpersistent in fruit. Staminal filaments distinct, villous at margin; antisepalous ones glandular-muricate towards apex. Stigma punctiform. Follicles 4.5–5 mm long.
