Characteristics

Shrub, or tree to 10 m high. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3 or rarely subopposite or alternate, simple; petiole 0.5–4.5 cm long; lamina elliptic to obovate, or narrowly so,  5.5–22.5 cm long, 2–8.5 cm wide; secondary veins (9–) 12–25 on each side of midrib, divergent at angle of (60–) 70–80°. Inflorescences 1–few-flowered, to 1.2 cm long; pedicels obsolete or to 1 mm long. Sepals 1–2 mm long, abaxially glabrous to appressed-puberulous. Petals distinct or coherent in c. proximal 1/6, 5–7 mm long, cream, abaxially densely appressed-pubescent, adaxially glabrous, subpersistent in fruit. Staminal filaments distinct or connate in c. proximal 1/5, woolly at margin; antisepalous ones glandular-muricate towards apex. Stigma subclavate. Follicles 5–10 mm long.
