Characteristics

A small laxly-branched subshrub 50–90 cm. tall.. Twigs angled at first, later subterete, greenish, pubescent, the hairs multicellular.. Bark pale grey-brown, later peeling.. Petioles 1–3 mm. long, pubescent; leaf-blade elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 1–4.5(–8) cm. long, 0.5–2.3(–5) cm. wide, obtuse or rounded at the apex and at the base, thinly chartaceous, lateral nerves 6–9 pairs, midrib and main nerves not raised above, and scarcely raised beneath, very sparingly pubescent or subglabrous above, sparingly pubescent beneath, ciliate.. Stipules lanceolate, 2 mm. long, narrowly acuminate, fimbriate-toothed towards the base, scarious.. Fascicles bisexual.. Male flowers: pedicels up to 1 cm. long, glabrous; sepals elliptic-obovate, 1.2 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide, obtuse, carinate, glabrous, pale green with white margins; disc 0.8 mm. diameter, partially adnate to the calyx; stamens with the filaments united for about half their length; staminal column 0.5 mm. long, stout; anthers 0.2 mm. long; pistillode elobate.. Female flowers: pedicels pubescent, extending to 3 cm. long in fruit, arising from a distinct podium 1 mm. long; sepals elliptic-ovate, 1.3 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, obtuse, carinate, ± glabrous, dark green with pale green margins; ovary 1 mm. diameter; style-branches capitate-clavate, 0.3 mm. long.. Fruits 3 mm. long, 4 mm. diameter.. Seeds 1.5 mm. long, brownish.
