Characteristics

Shrub or tree to 5 m high. Twigs reddish brown/rusty-pubescent. Leaves distichous: petiole 2–4 mm long; lamina obovate, elliptic, oblong-elliptic or ovate, 4–13 cm long, 2.5–7 cm wide, rounded or obtuse at base, glabrescent above, rusty hirsute or pubescent below; secondary veins c. 6–11 pairs. Pedicel 3–8 mm long, pubescent. Sepals triangular, 3.5–5.5 mm long, 2.8–3 mm wide, pubescent outside. Outer petals smaller than inner petals, sepaloid, flat, narrowly ovate or oblong-lanceolate, 7.5–21 mm long, 2–7.5 mm wide, pubescent outside, green. Inner petals deeply boat-shaped, 25–36 mm long, 11–15 mm wide, pubescent outside and inside, grooved inside above clawed base, indigo. Stamens 50–90, 1.2–1.7 mm long. Ovaries 1.5–2 mm long.
