Leaves opposite or subopposite, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 0.5–1.5 cm long, 1–3 mm wide, acute, usually glabrous, 3-nerved but often only midrib evident, ± strongly gland-dotted beneath, the margins slightly to distinctly thickened.. Inflorescences ± few-flowered dense axillary spikes usually on older wood, ± 1.5 cm long with flowers solitary within each bract.. Petals pink to purple, 4–5 mm long.. Staminal bundles pink to purple with claws 4–6 mm long and 40–60 filaments.
