Melaleuca thymifolia Sm.

Shrub usually only up to 1 m but recorded up to 6 m; usually with many branches from a woody tuber; bark corky, flaking; branchlets puberulous or quite glabrous.. Leaves opposite or subopposite, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 0.5–1.5 cm long, 1–3 mm wide, acute, usually glabrous, 3-nerved but often only midrib evident, ± strongly gland-dotted beneath, the margins slightly to distinctly thickened.. Inflorescences ± few-flowered dense axillary spikes usually on older wood, ± 1.5 cm long with flowers solitary within each bract.. Petals pink to purple, 4–5 mm long.. Staminal bundles pink to purple with claws 4–6 mm long and 40–60 filaments.

Heath and scrubland, growing in damp places and on the margins of swamps. Damp heathy places and open scrub.

Can be grown by cuttings or seedlings.
