Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems c. 60-200 mm long, up to 1 mm in diam., well branched from the base, stems diffuse, sometimes rooting from the lowermost parts, villous, hairs patent, glandular, up to 0.75-1.25 mm long. Leaves opposite, blade c. 5-11 x 2.5-7 mm, slightly smaller upwards and passing imperceptibly into floral bracts, elliptic to ovate tapering into a flat petiolar part 1.5-6 mm long, roughly 1/4 to 1/2 the length of the blade, upper margins with 2-4 pairs of coarse teeth, thinly villous on both surfaces, hairs up to 0.5-1.25 mm long. Flowers few in terminal leafy racemes, sometimes very lax. Bracts leaf-like, the lower ones c. 5-15 mm long (including the petiolar part), 1.75-5 mm broad, hairs c. 0.75-1.5 mm long, bract adnate to pedicel only, or sometimes to extreme base of calyx in uppermost flowers. Pedicels up to 0.75 mm long. Calyx bilabiate, tube 0.75-1(-2) mm long, anticous lobes 1.75-3(-5) x 0.6-1 mm, anticous lip split 1.1-2(-3) mm, posticous lobes narrower, whole calyx glandular villous, hairs up to c. 0.75 mm long. Corolla tube 3.5-5(-10) x 0.6-0.8(-1) mm, broadening a little in throat, limb 2.5-5(-8) mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes 0.6-1.5(2.7) x 0.4-1(2) mm, anticous lobe 1-2(-3) x 0.6-1(2.8) mm, all lobes oblong-elliptic, white, orange patch at base of posticous lip, glabrous. Stamens 4, anthers 0.3-0.6(-0.75) mm long, posticous pair in throat, anticous pair shortly exserted. Stigma exserted. Capsules 3-3.5(-5) x 2-2.5 mm Seeds c. 0.4 x 0.4 mm It flowers mainly between October and January, but flowering and fruiting has also been recorded in July.
