Characteristics

Tree up to 15(–20) m. tall; crown often with a browse-line produced by giraffe; bark with pronounced vertical fissures.. Leaves up to 35 cm. long, less divided than in M. azedarach; leaflets nearly always entire (rarely a few leaflets have a single basal lobe or a few shallow teeth).. Inflorescence congested, up to 12 cm. long, axillary and on older branchlets.. Drupe 3–4 cm. long; endocarp very thick and bony, terete, with a star-like, 5-lobed apical depression and a rose-like, 5-lobed basal depression; fertile locules 2.. Fig. 5.
