Characteristics

Tree 6-12 m tall; branchlets puberulous with erect trichomes when young, glabrate, longitudinally ridged. Leaves alternate, narrowly obovate, 34-60 cm long, 9-18 cm wide, abruptly acuminate to caudate acuminate (cuspidate in type), the base narrowly cuneate to attenuate, thin coriaceous, entire, drying brown below from the pubescence, darker brownish gray above, main veins impressed above and raised below, tertiary venation plane above, prominulous below, above sparsely and glabrescently puberulous over the surface and densely and persis-tently pubescent on midvein; below strongly and persistently brownish puberu-lous throughout, the trichomes concentrated along the veins and veinlets; petiole 2-3 cm long, thick, grooved adaxially, puberulous. Inflorescences arising from the axils of the uppermost leaves, puberulous, openly paniculate, the flowers congested and sessile on contracted short third order branches, more or less fasciculate. Flowers with buds cream, drying blackish; sepals apparently 6, broadly ovate to obtusely subtriangular, the apex acutish, ca. 2 mm long, pub-erulous. Fruits obovoid-globose, 2.3-2.5 cmi long, 1.8-2.2 cm in diam.
