Leaf-lamina 7–18 x 3–6á5 cm., ovate or oblong-ovate, roundish or more frequently slightly cordate at the base, somewhat contracted at the apex into a ± long and obtuse acumen, slightly revolute at the margin, coriaceous, discolorous or subconcolorous, slightly shining above, dull beneath, longitudinally 1-nerved (sometimes with a very slender nerve running parallel to and near the margin), transverse nerves numerous, very slender, faintly visible on both faces, straight, ± at right angles to the midrib, tertiary nerves and reticulation inconspicuous; petiole 1·5–2 mm. long.
Flowers in fascicles of 20–40 at the nodes of leafless old branches (fide Gilg); pedicels 2–3 mm. long.
Fruit c. 10 mm. in diameter, subglobose, black at maturity (red when immature).
Branchlets terete, brownish; nodes rather thickened.
Receptacle saucer-shaped, shallowly 4-lobed.
A tree up to 8 m. high or a shrub.
Petals pink to scarlet.
