Characteristics

Suffrutescent vine. Stem subquadrangular to terete. Indument of branchlets, petioles and inflorescences pilose to sparingly pilose with erect or spreading, yellowish-brown trichomes 1-3 mm long, or older parts glabrescent. Petiole 0.5-2 cm long; blade membranaceous, ovate to oblong-ovate or elliptic or sometimes sublanceolate, 6-14.5 x 3-6 cm, gradually to abruptly narrowed to an acuminate tip, often terminated by a mucro 1-2 mm long, rounded and obtuse at base and decurrent on the petiole, both surfaces yellowish-brown hirsute, lower surface more densely so than upper, trichomes ascending curved, those of the upper surface arising from flat, rounded, more or less stellate bases; primary and secondary veins (3-5 pairs) prominent beneath, less so above. Flowers (1-)2 in each axil; pedicels 2-4 cm long, densely yellowish-brown pilose, trichomes spreading, ca. 2 mm long; bracteoles thin, veiny, carinate, oblong-elliptic to ovate, 20-30 x 8-16 mm, rounded or subobtuse and setiform at apex with a 2 mm long seta, rounded at base, hirsute, trichomes appressed or spreading, curved, tawny, 3.5 mm long. Calyx cupular, 1 mm long, glabrous; corolla cream white or somewhat light lilac, tinged yellow distally, 25-30 mm long, lobes suborbicular, 5 x 4 mm, shallowly emarginate at apex; ovary lenticular-compressed, obliquely oblong, glabrous. Fruit deep purple when ripe, oblong to ovoid, compressed, oblique, 15-18 x 6-12 mm, obtuse or rounded at apex, glabrous.
