Characteristics

Branched vine to 15 m high. Stem subquadrangular, glabrous. Petiole 1.5-3.5 cm long, glabrous; blade membranous, elliptic-ovate, 6-10 x 2.5-5.5 cm, gradually to abruptly narrowed to an acuminate tip, this often terminated by a mucro 1 mm long, rotundate or acute at base, glabrous or nearly glabrous; primary and secondary veins (about 4 pairs) more prominent on lower surface than on upper. Flowers 1-2 in each axil; pedicels slender, 2.5-3.5 cm long, glabrous; bracteoles green, ovate, 14-20 x 8-14 mm, acute or slightly apiculate at apex, obtuse or truncate at base, glabrous. Calyx annular, extremely short, glabrous; corolla creamy white or white with purple spots, or with dark purple veins at throat, narrow, tubular, 20-25 mm long, the tube 3 mm wide at base, slightly constricted above base, expanded to 4-5 mm wide apically, limb 10-12 mm wide, lobes suborbicular, 5 mm in diameter, whitish, rounded or shallowly emarginate, more or less erose, tube glandular-papillose within; stamens attached at 10 mm above base of tube, 5 mm long, anthers white, sagittate, 3 mm long, aristate, slender tip recurved, glandular-papillose dorsally, tips of basal lobes densely pilose; ovary obovoid, 2 mm long, 1.5 mm in diam., glabrous, style glabrous. Fruit dark purple, resembling an elongated olive, dark blue when ripe, ellipsoid to ovoid, 15 x 8-9 x 7 mm, glabrous.
