Characteristics

A glabrous shrub or small tree up to 7.5 m. tall, but more commonly 1.5–3.5 m. tall.. Young twigs smooth, greenish brown; older ones dark greyish brown.. Petioles 0.2–1.1 cm. long; leaf-blade ovate to elliptic-ovate, 6–15.5 cm. long, 2–8 cm. wide, acutely or subacutely shortly acuminate, rounded at the base, remotely crenate-toothed or subentire, chartaceous, lateral nerves 7–8 pairs, the lowest 2 or 3 pairs close together and not looped, the upper remoter and looped, bright or deep green and glossy above, paler beneath.. Stipules subulate, 5–9 mm. long.. Male inflorescences up to 19 cm. long; bracts lanceolate, 2 mm. long, sharply acute, rigid, ciliate, closely applied to the axis; clusters tight; bracteoles numerous, scarious..
