Characteristics

Herb to 40 cm high. Leaves lanceolate, acuminate, 5-20 cm long, 1-2.4 cm wide, green and almost glabrous above, silvery white below with a fine appressed indumentum; margin and midrib with larger slender scales. Panicle erect, exserted, narrow, densely flowered, 3-22 cm long, occasionally reduced to a small raceme; branches 2-6, tomentose, c. 10-70-flowered; peduncle 3-18 cm long, pubescent, with 1-3 leaves; pedicels slender, 1-6 mm long. Perianth white, the tepal-bases dark red; tube 1.5-2.5 mm long, pubescent, basally adnate to ovary; lobes spreading, 5-8 mm long, pubescent outside. Filaments often deltoid, 1-3 mm long; anthers c. 1 mm long. Ovary broad, exserted, prominent; style trifid, very short or as long as ovary or styles 3. Capsule ovoid or broadly ovoid, 5-7 mm long, exserted.
