Characteristics

Large herb. Leaves linear, pendulous, gradually attenuate to a fine point, usually 60-105 cm long, 1.5-4.5 cm wide, green, glabrous or with cottony hairs along midrib and margins. Panicle drooping, exserted, open, flowers rather widely spaced, usually 30-50 cm long; branches shortly villous; peduncle 25-35 cm long, villous, with 1 or 2 leaves; pedicels slender, 3-13 mm long. Perianth white; tube 2-4 mm long, sparsely hairy, closely enclosing ovary; lobes erect or slightly spreading, 4-7 mm long, almost glabrous. Filaments subulate, very short; anthers c. 0.6 mm long. Ovary small; style trifid, very short, or styles 3. Capsule oblong, 4.5-7 mm long, exserted.
