Characteristics

Herb to 50 cm high. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, long-acuminate, erect or spreading, usually 15-50 cm long, 2-3.5 cm wide, green, sprinkled with pale, slender scales on surfaces and margins, glabrescent; young leaves often whitish below. Panicle erect, exserted, narrow, many-flowered, 8-24 cm long; branches 2-8, shortly woolly-hairy; peduncle 6-35 cm long, with 1 or 2 leaves; pedicels filiform, 9-15 mm long. Perianth white; tube 0.5-1.3 mm long, tomentose, not adnate to ovary; lobes 3-7 mm long, glabrous, becoming strongly reflexed and exposing the ovary. Filaments terete, 1.7-2.6 mm long; anthers 0.4-0.8 mm long. Ovary small; style slender, trifid, c. as long as ovary. Capsule depressed-globular, 3-lobed, 2-3 mm long, exserted.
