Characteristics

A glabrous suffrutex, with several erect simple or branched stems, or a shrub, 0.6–1 m. tall; stems square and somewhat grooved when young; bark with very fine longitudinal ridges.. Leaf-blades obovate, 7.5–22 cm. long, 3.8–10.5 cm. wide, apex obtuse, base obtuse, coriaceous; midrib shallowly crested above, tertiary nerves prominent above; petioles 0.3–1 cm. long, stout, channelled above; stipules triangular, 0.7–1.5 cm. long, acute or sometimes acuminate.. Inflorescences one in each axil or occasionally only in one axil, few–15-flowered, subcapitulate, often subtended by leaf-like bracts up to 2 cm. long; peduncle 0.1–1 cm. long; bracteoles ovate, ± 4 mm. long, acuminate, ciliate.. Calyx-tube ovate, 2–3 mm. long; limb-tube ± 1 mm. long; lobes narrowly triangular, 1.25–2 mm. long, acute, ciliate.. Corolla white; tube 2 cm. long, 2 mm. wide at top; lobes narrowly obovate, 0.8–1.1 cm. long, 4 mm. wide, rounded.. Anthers exserted for ± 2/3 their length.. Stigmatic club 4 mm. long, winged..
