Characteristics

Shrub to 2 m. tall, with greenish brown longitudinally rugose branches; branching slightly supra-axillary.. Leaf-blades elliptic to obovate-elliptic, 5.5–12 cm. long, 2.5–5 cm. wide, abruptly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous save for sparsely pilose domatia beneath; petiole 5–8 mm. long; stipules triangular, 6 mm. long, acuminate, ± keeled, glabrous.. Inflorescences slightly supra-axillary, placed unilaterally at successive nodes on alternate sides, 1 (or possibly –2 or –3)-flowered; peduncle short, 2 mm. long; pedicels probably red, 1 cm. long; bracteoles lanceolate, 2–3 mm. long, ciliate.. Calyx-tube ovoid, 2.5 mm. long; limb-tube 1.5 mm. long, with narrowly triangular acuminate ciliate lobes 2 mm. long, 1 mm. wide.. Corolla purple, narrowly funnel-shaped with cylindrical base; tube 2.4 cm. long, 5–6 mm. wide at throat, finely pubescent inside save atbase; lobes rounded, 5 mm. in diameter, glabrous.. Anthers included.. Stigmatic club divided into 2 lobes 2 mm. long reaching about halfway up the corolla-lobes.. Fruit orange to red, ellipsoid, 2.2 cm. long, 1.4 cm. wide..
