Characteristics

Shrub about 4 m. tall; young branches densely velvety ferruginous tomentose.. Leaf-blades elliptic, 5–13 cm. long, 2.5–5.5 cm. wide, shortly acuminate at the apex, rounded, obtuse or very slightly emarginate at the base, thin, at first pubescent above but at length almost glabrous save on midrib, glaucous and pubescent beneath particularly on the nerves which are ferruginous tomentose (the other hairs are whitish with some ferruginous admixed and are not closely adpressed); venation finely raised above, reticulate; petiole 3–5 mm. long.. Inflorescences (1–)2–5-flowered, leaf-opposed; pedicels 1.5–2 cm. long; bracteoles minute.. Sepals small, 0.8 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, ferruginous tomentellous outside.. Petals greenish-white, thick and fleshy, ferruginous pubescent outside, glabrous inside save near the margins; outer round or rounded-triangular, 4.5 mm. long, 4 mm. wide; inner narrowly obovate, 4 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, thickened inside at the apex.. Stamens 8–12, 1.5 mm. long; filaments about equalling the anthers; connective not dilated and thickened, nor produced.. Carpels 8–9; ovary 1.8 mm. long, 2–4-ovuled, ferruginous tomentose; stigma subglobose.. Fruits not known.
