Leaves petiolate; lamina c. 8.5–11 x 3–4.2 cm., obovate to oblanceolate or oblong, obtuse or rounded at the apex, cuneate to rounded at the base, membranous, sparsely pubescent on both sides; petiole 3–4 mm. long, pubescent.
Flowers solitary, in the axils of the leaves, appearing with the young leaves; pedicel 1–1.6 cm. long, slender, pubescent; bracteole ovate or elliptic, obtuse or rounded, glabrescent or puberulous.
Sepals c. 4–5 mm. long, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, recurved with undulate margins, glabrous or with a marginal fringe.
Fruit c. 6 x 4 cm., cylindric-ellipsoid, finely rugose, not ridged, glabrous.
Branches dark purple, buff-pubescent at first, eventually glabrous.
Seeds 1.5–2 cm. long, cylindric-ellipsoid, smooth, yellow-brown.
Ovary c. 0.75 mm. long, globose or conic, glabrous.
Stamens c. 0.35 mm. long, ± orbicular.
Shrub or small tree.
