Characteristics

Diffuse herbaceous perennial to 20 cm high, with few to many stems arising from a single rootstock. Stems up to 1 mm across; young branchlets smooth or slightly striate when dried. Leaves lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 3–15 mm long, 1–2 mm wide, flat or slightly concave, with margins entire, apex acute with short apiculum, foveate adaxially; stipules up to 0.5 mm long. Male flowers: calyx lobes ovate, 0.9–1.1 mm long; petals ovate, 1.7–2.2 mm long, apex acute to obtuse; staminal filaments 1.1–1.2 mm long; connective tissue 0.3–0.4 mm long; rudimentary ovary present with 3 erect linear lobes c. 0.7 mm long. Female flowers: calyx lobes ovate, 1.1–1.5 mm long; petals ovate, 2.4–2.5 mm long; styles 2-lobed; lobes c. four-fifths the length of style. Fruit globose, 2.5–2.7 mm diam., ± smooth. Seeds ellipsoid.
