Characteristics

Plants mostly 200-400 mm high. Corms 10-18 mm diam.; tunics pale to dark brown, soft textured, inner layers ± entire, outer becoming vertically split, eventually fibrous. Stem with long above-ground internode, flexed above sheath of foliage leaf, with 1(2) sheathing leaves 25-40 mm long, usually ± obtuse, rarely sticky below upper nodes. Foliage leaf solitary, inserted shortly above ground level, firm to rigid, exceeding stem, terete. Rhipidial spathes dark green, distal margins brown, mostly truncate or obtuse at apex, inner 50-80 mm long, outer ± half as long. Flowers fugaceous, usually pale yellow, sometimes flushed brown throughout, rarely pale blue-grey, veined purplish or brown outside, outer tepal limbs with clear yellow nectar guide at base, outer tepals 30-50 mm long, limbs spreading to laxly reflexed, claw 10-20 mm long, suberect; inner tepals 25-35 mm long, erect, often becoming reflexed later. Filaments 5-12 mm long, almost free ± to base (united for ± 1 mm); anthers 7-10 mm long, yellow; pollen usually orange-red, rarely yellow. Ovary ± 8-12(-18) mm long, cylindric-triangular to ± 3-winged, exserted, style branches 11-20 mm long, crests 13-23 mm long, slightly exceeding style branches. Capsules cylindric, somewhat 3-lobed, 15-20 mm long. Seeds large, flat, discoid.
