Characteristics

Plants (30-)40-70 cm. high.. Corm ± 1.5 cm. diameter, tunics of pale medium to coarse fibres.. Cataphylls light brown, irregularly broken.. Foliage leaf solitary, much exceeding the stem, linear, channelled, 2.5-6 mm. wide.. Stem unbranched, with 2-4 sheathing leaves, these 6-7 cm. long, not overlapping.. Rhipidial spathes dry and brown apically, the inner 6-10 cm. long, the outer ± 2/3 as long as the inner.. Flowers yellow, the outer tepals with deeper yellow nectar guides at the bases of the limbs and usually darkly veined and spotted in the mid-part of the limb.. Outer tepals lanceolate, 4.5-5.5(-6.5) cm. long, the limb 2.5-4 cm. long, often slightly exceeding the claw, extending outward at 45° below horizontal; inner tepals erect, lanceolate, 3.5-5(-6) cm. long.. Filaments 9-14 mm. long, free in the upper third; anthers 8-10 mm. long.. Ovary 1.5-2 cm. long, usually exserted; style-branches 1.3-1.6 cm. long, crests 8-15 mm. long.. Capsules ovoid, 2-3 cm. long, exserted 8-10 cm. from the spathes.. Fig. 3/2.
