Plants slender, 200-400 mm high. Corm ± 10 mm diam.; tunics of pale, medium-textured fibres. Stem glabrous or sometimes velvety, simple or occasionally 1-branched, sheathing leaves dry and brown distally, 45-50 mm long. Foliage leaf solitary, linear, channelled, exceeding stem, often trailing distally, 3-4 mm wide. Rhipidial spathes green with dry, brown, attenuate apices; inner ± 50-60 mm long, outer ± half as long. Flowers long-lived, mauve-lilac to almost white, outer tepal limbs with small, triangular yellow or black nectar guides at bases, spreading; outer tepals 22-28 x 15-22 mm, claws ± erect, channelled, velvety, 8-12 mm long, limbs broadly ovate; inner tepals 3-lobed, channelled below, lateral lobes 1-2 mm long, obtuse, central lobe 5-8 mm long, laxly spreading. Filaments 2-3 mm long, united ± in lower 1/2; anthers 5-6 mm long, purple; pollen yellow or orange. Ovary ± cylindric, 10-18 mm long; style branches ± 5 mm long, flushed purple or black, crests 5-7 mm long, pale mauve to blue. Capsules club-shaped, 12-15 mm long. Seeds angular.
