Characteristics

Plants large, 700-1000 mm high. Corm deep-seated, ± 20 mm diam.; tunics of coarse, hard black fibres. Stem straight, branched from upper nodes, branches short, held close to axis, all cauline leaves with short blades. Foliage leaves several, lower 1 or 2 ± basal, upper leaves progressively shorter above, all with channelled blades, lower leaves linear, up to 500 mm long, upright but often trailing distally, channelled, 15-20 mm wide, uppermost leaves up to 100 mm long. Rhipidial spathes attenuate, inner 60-80 mm long, outer ± 3/4 as long. Flowers fugaceous, uniformly pale yellow, sweet-scented, tepal claws forming a narrow cup enclosing filament column, limbs spreading; outer tepals ± 40 mm long, claws ± 20 mm long; inner tepals slightly smaller. Filaments united in a column 16-20 mm long, minutely velvety in lower half, included in floral cup; anthers 9-10 mm long, initially erect, arching inward after dehiscence, exserted. Ovary ± cylindric, 11-14 mm long; style branches ± 7 mm long, diverging, stigma lobe upright, appressed to base of crests, stigmatic laterally, crests erect, 2-3 mm long, either exceeding or shorter than anthers. Capsules ± cylindric, mostly 20-25 mm long. Seeds angular, light brown.
