Characteristics

Plants often quite tall but also dwarfed in dry habitats, leaves up to 300 mm long, usually with axillary cormlets. Leaves 3 or 4, often exceeding inflorescence, usually slender, ± straight to falcate and somewhat twisted, channelled, 3-8 mm wide when opened flat, glabrous or softly hairy, margins usually ciliate, straight, undulate or crisped. Rhipidia solitary; inner spathe smooth or sparsely hairy, 35-55(75) mm long. Flowers blue to blue-grey, outer tepal claws often dark blue to purple, limbs with small yellow nectar guides at bases outlined dark blue (or rarely white with yellow nectar guides); outer tepals 24-34 mm long, claws 12-17 mm long (slightly shorter to ± as long as limb); inner tepals 25-32 mm long. Filaments 5-10 mm long, united for 1.5-2.0 mm (± 1/4-1/5 their length); anthers 5-8 mm long, blue or white. Ovary 6-16 mm long; style branches 9-16 mm long, crests 9-15 mm long. Capsules 12-20 mm long. Seeds ± globose, 2.0-2.5 mm diam.
