Characteristics

Plants up to 50 mm high. Corm 8-12 mm diam.; tunics coarsely fibrous with prominent vertical ribs. Stem underground at flowering. Foliage leaves channelled, lowermost 30-70 mm long, spreading or lowermost prostrate, upper shorter, smooth, glossy, margins hyaline, minutely ciliate. Rhipidial spathes not distinct from leaves; with 3 to 5 flowers per plant. Flowers fugaceous, ± salver-shaped with tepals cupped below, usually uniformly yellow, sometimes with blackish markings at edge of floral cup, rarely orange-red with yellow centre; perianth tube 13-28 mm long; tepals ± equal, obovate, mostly 18-28 x 9-11 mm. Filaments united in a column up to 6 mm long; anthers sessile, 3.5-5.0 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ovoid, ± 4 mm long; style straight, dividing above anther tips, stigma lobes entire. Capsules and seeds unknown.
