Moraea galaxia (L.F.) Goldblatt & J.C.Manning

Plants solitary or several in cushion-like tufts. Corm ± 10 mm diam.; tunics of brown, netted fibres, sometimes with prominent vertical ridges. Stem underground at flowering. Foliage leaves prostrate, ± plane, lowermost 20-30 mm long, often slightly undulate, margins thickened, pale, ciliate in a single row or densely ciliate over thickened area. Rhipidial spathes not distinct from leaves; with 2 to 5 flowers per plant. Flowers fugaceous, salver-shaped with tepals cupped below, uniformly yellow; perianth tube (5-)10-20 mm long, cylindric; tepals ± ovate or obovate, 16-20 x 6-8 mm. Filaments united in a column 4-5 mm long, often bottle-shaped, yellow; anthers sessile, 2-3 mm long, erect, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ovoid, ± 3 mm long; style slender, initially erect, dividing above anther tips, stigma lobes fringed. Capsules and seeds unknown.
