Plants slender, 250-400 mm high, often with fibrous collar around base. Corm ± 15 mm diam.; tunics of dark brown fibres. Stem usually unbranched, 3 or 4 internodes long, sheathing leaves, green with dry attenuate apices, 40-45 mm long. Foliage leaf solitary, basal, linear, narrowly channelled or margins inrolled and sometimes seeming terete, ± 2 mm diam. (± 3.5 mm wide when opened flat), longer than stem and trailing distally. Rhipidial spathes with dry, attenuate apices; inner 40-70 mm long, outer ± 1/2 as long. Flower long-lasting, pale blue-mauve to violet, outer tepal limbs with yellow nectar guides at bases edged dark blue, reflexed ± 45º, curling inward near tips; outer tepals lanceolate, 25-32 x 9-11 mm long, claws ascending, 10-12 mm long, velvety, limb ± 20 mm long, inner tepals either ± lanceolate and entire, attenuate or 3-lobed with rounded lateral lobes and linear central lobe, 18-20 x 4-6 mm, ± erect, curving inward distally. Filaments 10-13 mm long, united in a slender, almost smooth or puberulous column, free in upper ± 2 mm; anthers 3-4 mm long, slightly exceeding stigma lobes, displayed above tepal limbs, violet; pollen orange. Ovary narrowly ovoid, ± 10 mm long, sometimes included; style branches ± 4 mm long, crests ± 4 mm long, erect. Capsules ellipsoid, 15-17 mm long. Seeds angular, prismatic.
