Characteristics

Plants tiny, up to 20 mm high when in bloom. Corm ovoid, 3-5 mm diam.; tunics of light brown, netted fibres with prominent vertical ribs. Stem underground at flowering, reaching up to 50 mm above ground in fruit. Leaves 2 to 5, falcate, shallowly channelled to plane, up to 30 x 1 mm, acute, with broad transparent sheathing bases below ground, margins smooth. Rhipidial spathes hardly distinct from leaves. Flowers fugaceous, bell-shaped, light purple with yellow claws and nectar guides at bases of tepal limbs; perianth tube 5-10 mm long, cylindric; tepals 10-12 mm long, clawed, claws ascending, forming a narrow cup including filament column, limbs extended horizontally, outer up to 5 mm wide, inner up to 4 mm wide. Filaments ± 5 mm long, united below in a cylindric column, free and diverging in upper 0.5-1.0 mm, yellow; anthers just < 2 mm long, diverging, yellow. Ovary oblong-cylindric, ± 3 mm long, style diverging into three lobes at midanther level, stigma lobes shorter than or barely overtopping anthers, margins entire, minutely ciliate, incurving opposite anther, radial margins slightly raised. Capsules 6-7 mm long. Seeds angular, < 0.5 mm diam.
