Characteristics

Plants up to 50 mm high, often growing in small clumps. Corm 12-16 mm diam.; tunics of fine fibres accumulating in a dense mass. Stem underground at flowering. Foliage leaves not clearly distinguished from rhipidial spathes, inserted at ground level, ovate, lower 2 prostrate, ovate-oblong, ± plane, 20-40 x up to 6 mm, margins hyaline, densely ciliate. Rhipidial spathes not distinct from leaves; with 2 to 5 flowers per plant. Flowers fugaceous, ± salver-shaped, usually deep yellow in centre with tepals grading to creamy white distally or uniformly yellow; perianth tube cylindric, 7-16 mm long; tepals obovate, ± obtuse, 15-21 x 7-10 mm. Filaments 5.5-7.5 mm long, united in lower ± 2 mm, diverging above; anthers 2-3 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ovoid, ± 3 mm long; style slender, initially erect, dividing above anther tips, later eccentric, stigma lobes fringed. Capsules and seeds unknown.
