Characteristics

Plants 150-300 mm high. Corm 10-15 mm diam.; tunics of dark brown to black fibres, extending upward into short stiff bristles. Stem several-branched, all stalked, sheathing leaves 17-21 mm long. Foliage leaves 2 or 3, all ± basal, 80-150 mm long, up to 11 mm wide, spreading to ± prostrate, undulate and loosely twisted, margins undulate or crisped. Rhipidial spathes green or becoming dry from tips, acute, inner 25-30 mm long, outer ± half as long. Flowers fugaceous, stellate, yellow, tepal limbs spreading; tepals ± 20 mm long, claws ± 2 mm long, erect and clasping filament bases, outer tepals up to 5 mm wide, inner narrower. Filaments united only at base (seeming free), 3-4 mm long; anthers ± 3 mm long, straight and suberect before dehiscence, yellow. Ovary 4-5 mm long, usually barely exserted from spathes, style arms paired, filiform, spreading, ± 4 mm long. Capsules narrowly oblong-ellipsoid, 8-10 mm long. Seeds angular, ± 1 mm diam.
