Characteristics

Plants solitary or several in small tufts, up to 50 mm high. Corm 8-12 mm diam.; tunics of fine, netted fibres accumulating with age in a dense mass around base. Stem underground at flowering. Foliage leaves ascending below, recurving distally, oblong, obtuse, shallowly channelled, often slightly undulate, lower, up to 20 x 9 mm, margins thickened, hyaline when dry, densely long-ciliate. Rhipidial spathes not distinct from leaves; with 1 to 3 flowers per plant. Flowers fugaceous, uniformly yellow, salver-shaped with tepals cupped below; perianth tube cylindric, 4.5-10.0 mm long; tepals subequal, ovate-obovate, 6-10 mm long. Filaments united in a cylindric tube 3.5-4.0 mm long; anthers sessile, diverging, 2.5-3.5 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ± 2.5 mm long; style dividing opposite anther tips, stigma lobes short, deeply fringed, spreading above anthers. Capsules and seeds unknown.

Stemless, cormous geophyte, up to 40 mm tall. Leaves ovate-oblong, spreading to prostrate, margins thickened, densely velvety. Flowers in a basal tuft, yellow, tubular below, tepals cupped, filaments united in a column, style exceeding the anthers, style lobes fringed.
Like M. galaxia but leaf margins with cilia longer than the thickened margins.
